Trust is the conversion currency of Saudi e-commerce, and the Kingdom built an official instrument for it: store verification. For years that meant Maroof, the Ministry of Commerce‘s platform where online stores registered their CR or freelance document and earned a verifiable record shoppers could check. Since 2023, registration has moved to the Saudi Business Center’s Business Platform — the Ministry calls it “the one and only place for verifying and registering electronic stores in the Kingdom”. This guide explains what verification is, where it happens now, who can get it, and why it matters for your store.
What Store Verification Actually Is
Verification ties your selling presence (store URL, social accounts) to a legal identity the government already holds: your Commercial Registration or, for Saudi freelancers, your Freelance Document — plus a commercial bank account in the business’s name, which the Ministry lists as part of the verification requirements. A buyer (or a marketplace, or a bank) can check that the store in front of them belongs to a real, registered Saudi business — the single strongest antidote to the scam-store problem that haunts social commerce.
Who Can Get Verified
- CR holders — establishments and companies verify their store against the CR.
- Freelance Document holders (Saudi nationals) — verify against the freelance (professional) certificate (the two documents compared in our freelance vs CR guide).
- Social sellers — verification covers the online presence you register (store site and social accounts), which is exactly why it shows up in our Instagram selling guide’s trust checklist.
Not eligible: sellers with no Saudi document at all — which is the same wall Iqama holders meet at payments (see our CR guide for the document routes).
How to Register (Current Route)

- Hold your document first (CR via the Saudi Business Center — our CR guide — or the freelance document via freelance.sa), and have the business bank account open.
- Register/verify your e-store through the official channel: the Saudi Business Center’s Business Platform (business.sa) — the Maroof platform no longer takes registrations; the Ministry directed store owners to the Business Platform instead.
- Add your store link(s) and social accounts exactly as customers see them.
- Display the verification: link your store footer/profile to your verified record and keep the registered details identical to your store’s legal disclosures (name, CR number — the same disclosures our e-commerce law guide requires).
What It Costs & What Buyers See

Registration has historically been free (confirm the current terms on the official page). The public record shows the store’s registered identity and links, letting buyers confirm “this store belongs to CR number X” before paying — and giving authorities a complaints trail, which is precisely why verified stores convert better with careful Saudi shoppers.
Maroof’s Name vs Today’s System
Older guides (and most Saudi shoppers) still say “Maroof” for store verification — the brand taught the market the habit. The registration itself moved to the Business Platform in 2023, but the function is unchanged: document → verified record → buyer trust. When you read “get on Maroof”, translate it as “verify your e-store on the Saudi Business Center’s Business Platform”.
Should You Bother? (Verdict)
Yes — it’s historically free, it’s fast once your document and bank account exist, and it’s one of the few trust signals a scammer cannot fake. Do it the week your CR/freelance document issues, before your first ad riyal: verification belongs to the foundation steps in our pillar sequence, not the growth stage.
Registration route and requirements verified against the Ministry of Commerce (mc.gov.sa) and the Saudi Business Center at writing; government platforms consolidate and rebrand — confirm the live route on business.sa before applying. Independent guide.
